the silk road
For about 16 centuries, the Silk Road was one of the largest and most important trading routes in history. It stretched from Chang'an in China all the way to the Mediterranean region, linking great civilizations and allowing them to trade goods easily. It was about 4,000 miles long, and along the way there were many trading towns.
The conditions of the Silk Road were very harsh. Most of the routes covered huge deserts with either blazing or freezing temperatures, deadly sandstorms, and bandits. |
