Black Pepper
Black pepper had a huge impact on the world's history. Because black pepper was so valuable, the Portuguese tried to find a sea route to China, where it was easier to get to, and they ended up discovering North America in their attempts to do so.

At the time of the Silk Road, black pepper and many other peppers were grown all over Southeast Asia, and in places like Java and Madagascar. The pepper was usually traded to China or used in cooking. Often, pepper was used as currency in medieval Europe, because of its value. Pepper was also used to block out the taste of old and rotten meat.
